After A Theft

Call the police as soon as possible.

If your vehicle has been stolen, you should contact the police immediately and file a stolen vehicle report. GCI cannot honor a claim for vehicle theft unless you first file a police report.

Report your claim online or by phone.

After contacting the police, call GCI at 1-800-982-5783 to report the stolen vehicle as soon as possible. If you do not have comprehensive coverage, you should still notify us of any stolen vehicles immediately to help protect you if the thief causes damage(s) to others with your vehicle.

Things You Will Need

  • Certificate of Title for the vehicle.
  • Location of all keys to the vehicle before and after the theft.
  • Names and contact information of everyone who had access to the vehicle.
  • Description of the vehicle.
  • A list of personal property stolen along with the vehicle.
  • Any finance or leasing company contact information, if applicable.

Coverage for upgrades and custom items may be limited - your claims adjuster will provide more details.

Other Things To Do

If the stolen vehicle is financed or leased, report the theft to your finance or leasing company. To expedite your claim's process, inform your finance or leasing company to discuss the case directly with GCI.

GCI may also be able to provide you with a rental vehicle. Contact your claims adjuster for more information.

Has your vehicle been recovered?

If the police recover your vehicle, make sure to notify your GCI claims adjuster immediately. This will help in quickly resolving your claim. For additional information about vehicle theft, go to the National Highway Safety Administration's vehicle theft page at
